First BYUI Devo, First Impressions

William Riggins’ talk on being in the hands of the lord of the harvest is an inspiring message on believing in the words of your leaders, and in learning how to use one’s agency to make tough choices in the face of bewildering uncertainty. The choice to move and make a new life for yourself and your family is a hard decision to make, but one that can be guided through faith, courage, and an understanding that Heavenly Father always finds a way for his children. It is at the point where Bro. Riggins relates his story to that of the prophet Joseph Smith, as he too was asked to leave his home behind for the next step in the church’s future in Ohio.

As a person who has moved one too many times over the past 20 or so years of my life, I can relate to how hard it can be to have faith in believing how the lord does his work and through who. I believe it is important that the choice, whether his be deemed of God of not, should always be your choice in the end.

Logan, a passer-by I ran into on my way home to my apparment, had this to share with me about what he thought of Bro. Riggins’ message: “It was all a great reminder to me Joseph Smith’s day, and how important it is to establish a house of God and of the Lord. We need to be mindful of how we take Heavenly Father’s instructions and use them as a guide to greater fulfillment and happiness.”

Spoken like a honest follower of Christ, I couldn’t agree more that we as God’s children need to have faith in his instruction so that we may be able to do what we can for our families, but also for those around us.
